Grant's Windows 7 upgrade without any help from Engineers
It’s been a busy few days for our IT and engineering team here at Forth Towers as every PC in the building has had its software upgraded to Windows 7. This has caused a couple of issues in the studios due to soundcards not taking to the change very kindly but apart from that the whole operation went pretty smoothly.
Once I started using the new look operating system I then realised my PC at home which was running Vista wasn’t doing some of the cool things that Windows 7 can do. Something had to be done. I needed to get with it. And quick.
But as much as I can get my way round a computer no problems, undertaking something like this filled me with dread. My confidence wasn’t boosted after I visited a PC Repair shop where the guys bamboozled me with questions like “what KIND of Windows 7 do you want?” and “does your PC run 32 Bit or 64 bit?” Jeez. I was getting flashbacks to that famous Not the Nine O’Clock News sketch where the guy tried to upgrade his hi-fi. (Those of a certain age, ask your folks what a Hi-Fi is).
Anyway, I left a bit bemused and called a couple of pals slightly more technically minded than I and they counselled me into heading out to my nearest retail outlet and purchased the necessary software, took it home, stuck the disc in and off it went. A short while later with a little gentle tweaking here and there and it was all done. I had done it. No engineers. No loss of all my stuff. No tears. Easy and now, I must say, even with my 32 Bit PC, it’s all running very nicely thank you.
It’s amazing what you can achieve when you put your mind to it. Now that I’ve sorted this, who knows WHAT I’ll tackle next?
Just let’s not start a “Mac v PC” debate……
